How to maintain a silk press

  1. wrap hair in a silk scarf to keep it protected.

Secure your hair underneath a silk scarf, satin wrap, or in protective doobie wraps. This will create
movement, and cause your hair to fall beautifully every time you lose it. Keeping it wrapped shields
your mane from environmental factors like wind, humidity, or harsh weather which could ruin the
body and shine of your silk press.

  1. Avoid thermal tools on your hair.

Resist the urge to use thermal tools to maintain the life of your silk press. As you probably know,
using heat on your hair daily will only leave your hair looking fried and frazzled - and that's not the
look we're going for.
Instead, pin-curl your hair at night to maintain the body and beauty of your curls without the use of
heat. Simply take each curl and pin-curl the section with a hair pin or double prong clip. Repeat until
the entire head is complete and secure with a bonne.
  1.  Avoid Humidity & Don’t get your hair wet.

If you're natural you probably know by now that reversion is no joke and the smallest amount of
moisture and/or humidity in the air will have your freshly silk pressed hair looking like a mess.
Which is why you have to use products that fight against humidity during the styling process to
help reduce reverting and swelling.
Leaving the salon with a silk press is not the time to dive into the pool. It doesn’t matter how
straight your stylist got your hair; it will revert if it comes into contact with water. If you’re wearing
a silk press, stay away from water. Avoiding water includes the shower as well.
  1.  Wrap Your Hair at night.
Secure your strands with a silk wrap. Keeping it wrapped shields the hair from your tiring night
positions which could potentially ruin your hair.

 5)Tempted to Touch

You may love to touch your hair often, especially once your hair is finally straight. If you want
your silk press to last, it's best to keep your hands out of your hair. Too much hair stroking will
cause frizz and leave your hair less than silky. Try your best to keep your hands away from your
hair as much as possible. That will do your silk press good.

6) Guard it With Your Life

Okay, that might be a little dramatic. But, seriously. You paid good money and gave up your time
to get your hair bone straight. Don't let a good nights' sleep ruin it. If you want to maintain your
perfect hairdo, then you need to  wrap your hair at night in a satin or silk scarf or bonnet.
7) No touch-ups

Have you ever styled your hair, then you wrap it up at night and when you unwrap it the next day
you find a crease? You then want to jump on it with a flat iron to make it straight again. Listen.
Step away from the flat iron! Your hair can still suffer from heat damage even though it is already
straightened. Your hair is moisture and protein. Heat diminishes moisture and protein . There is no
need to apply more heat to your hair. If you notice a crease in your hair or if your hair is losing shine,
use a small amount of hair serum and wrap your hair up for a few hours. When you take it down your
hair will be shiny and crease free!
