What’s the Difference between Silk Pressing and Flat Ironing.?

Are you amongst those who can’t make out the difference between silk pressing and Flat Ironing?.
You may think they mean the same thing or just another fancy term for Hair Straightening done with hair
straighteners.
Silk Presses might look similar to flat ironing, but they are Smoother,  Healthier, Bouncier, Relaxier,
Silker and give the hair more flow and movement.
Silk Press

Silk presses generally require few products so the hair stays light and silky, while Flat Ironed hair has texture,
is healthy, straight,  but it’s not very silky looking like a Silk Press.
The techniques for both styles are the same, the only difference is the heat applied on the hair for both styles
that changes. That of the flat iron technique is about 370° while that for a silk press is about 450°+. The more
the heat, the silker the hair.
Let’s try to go more detailedly!!!
We are going to start with silk press and conclude with flat ironing!...
So what is a silk press?
Basically, a silk press is an upgraded version of a traditional press and curl (the old school style). It is actually
straightening(styling) your hair with a hot flat iron at a high temperature of about 430-450°c without the use of
a relaxer.  As with a press and curl, the flat iron or hot comb is warmed up then used to press your hair in chunks
to get it straight.
Most of the time grease, or some greasy-like substance, is used to help get the hair straight.  And while grease does
help get the hair very straight, it also leaves the hair extremely heavy, with no body or movement, and often looking
like it is stuck to the head.

Procedures on getting a perfect silk press.
You start off firstly by prepping your hair with a shampoo wash. We recommend you to use the  Morocan Hair Shampoo
which is a highly concentrated formula rich in antioxidant argan oil, reconstructive keratin and fatty acids. It restores
elasticity, moisture and manageability.
Move to hair conditioning after the shampoo wash with a hair conditioner. We recommend you use the
Syntonics Herbal Conditioning Hairdress 7oz which is a light formula that provides a natural sheen without leaving the
hair heavy, helps retain the proper moisture balance for scalp and hair, soothes dry scalp, leaves no greasy build-up for
hair that's smooth and free-flowing.
After conditioning, wrap your hair and go under a dryer for some few minutes to get the hair set for blow drying. Apply
some heat protectant to hair before the blow drying process so as to protect hair from heat damage.
Make sure the hair is well blown with the blow dryer to get rid of every moisture. To achieve a perfect blow-dry, divide
the hair into smaller sections.  Proceed with a lightweight leave-in conditioner spray on the hair, then divide it in smaller
portions and hold with pins or pecks before styling (silk pressing) with a flat iron or hot comb.
Begin the styling process from back to front of the head, making sure the hot flat iron or comb doesn’t touch the roots of
the hair to avoid head damage. Go through hair with your hot styling tool to obtain your perfect silk press. You can then
trim the edges for it to be uniform.

This is the same method you will go through for flat ironing. The only difference now is in the heat that is applied on the
hair during the flat ironing like we already mentioned above.
